
A kind friend sent me some fruit from her garden. She’s done so for the last few years. Blackcurrants that still smell of the sun and gooseberries, almost translucent. We don’t see each other much these days. I miss her. But this is a touch, a connection that I value.
A student (presumably) had put some boxes outside one of the accommodation block. There was a sign balanced on one of them. FREE STUFF it read.
A black cat made as if to cross the road in front of me and then stopped and sat down in the road. I kept on walking and then heard a terrific screech and whirled round thinking it as the cat only to see a seagull swooping up from a dive. Had it attacked the cat?
I dreamt of the dark man – it was a beautiful dream. We were lovers and he was in my bed. Such sweetness. And yet, even in the dream I felt that same unsated longing when he was gone. And he was gone often. Forever elusive. And yet, such sweetness.
